Survey of roughness by stochastic oscillations

چکیده

In this paper, connection between surface roughness and directed polymers in random medium are studied, when the surface is considered as a directed line undergoing stochastic oscillations. This is performed by studying the influence of a stochastic elastic forcing term −κy+η(s), on a particle moving along a rough surface. Two models are proposed and analysed in this way: the random-walk process (RW) in its discrete and continuous form, and a Markovian process via the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck (O-U) process. It is shown that the continuous RW leads to an oscillator equation, via an effective action obeying a KPZ equation which is solved analytically. The O-U process allows to obtain information on the profile of surface for a long size substrate. The analogy with the roughness is achieved by introducing a quantity suited to directed line formalism: the height velocity variation ∂h/∂s. PACS numbers: 05.40.-a, 02.50.Ey, 68.35.Ja

Study Effect of Deformation Nanochannel Wall Roughness on The Water-Copper Nano-Fluids Poiseuille Flow Behavior

In the nanochannel flow behavior with respect to expand their applications in modern systems is of utmost importance. According to the results obtained in this study, the condition of nonslip on the wall of the nanochannel is not acceptable because in the nano dimensions, slip depends on different parameters including surface roughness. In this study, keeping the side area roughness, deformatio...

Complete roughness and conductivity corrections for the recent Casimir force measurement

We consider detailed roughness and conductivity corrections to the Casimir force in the recent Casimir force measurement employing an atomic force microscope. The roughness of the test bodies — a metal plate and a sphere — was investigated with the AFM and the SEM respectively. It consists of separate crystals of different heights and a stochastic background. The amplitude of roughness relative...

Three-Dimensional Geostatistical Analysis of Rock Fracture Roughness and Its Degradation with Shearing

Three-dimensional surface geometry of rock discontinuities and its evolution with shearing are of great importance in understanding the deformability and hydro-mechanical behavior of rock masses. In the present research, surfaces of three natural rock fractures were digitized and studied before and after the direct shear test. The variography analysis of the surfaces indicated a strong non-line...

Feedback control of surface roughness in sputtering processes using the stochastic Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation

This work focuses on control of surface roughness in sputtering processes including two surface micro-processes, diffusion and erosion. The fluctuation of surface height of such sputtering processes can be described by the stochastic Kuramoto–Sivashinsky equation (KSE), a fourth-order stochastic partial differential equation (PDE). Specifically, we consider sputtering processes, including surfa...

Periodic Oscillations in the Analysis of Algorithms and Their Cancellations

A large number of results in analysis of algorithms contain fluctuations. A typical result might read “The expected number of . . . for large n behaves like log2 n + constant + delta(log2 n), where delta(x) is a periodic function of period one and mean zero.” Examples include various trie parameters, approximate counting, probabilistic counting, radix exchange sort, leader election, skip lists,...
